The presentation highlights developing a Granular Road Design and Performance Assessment Tool as well as discussing many experimental test sites across five Iowa counties in 2023, featuring multiple test sections for periodic field tests and performance monitoring. This data can help identify temporal changes in surface deficiencies and structural capacities, key factors in creating data-driven models that predict blading and resurfacing intervals—critical maintenance events during a design period. The tool also incorporates life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) for annual cost assessments. This presentation will highlight the methodology and results from the tool’s development, focusing on its practical application to enhance decision-making in granular road maintenance and management practices.
