Dr. John Campbell is a consultant with Exponent with over 35 years of experience examining issues related to driver behavior, roadway safety, and the contributing factors to roadway crashes. He is trained as a psychologist, with a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology and a Master’s degree in Human Factors.
He has developed design guidelines, tools, and other resources to support roadway design, countermeasure selection, and crash diagnostics. He has developed and provided training to State DOTs on human factors aspects of roadway design and operations.
He served as the chair of TRB's Standing Committee on Human Factors of Infrastructure Design and Operations from 2016-2023.
For NCHRP, he is leading the development of the 3rd Edition of the Human Factors Guidelines for Road Systems. He is a contributor to the 8th Edition of the Green Book and the 2nd Edition of the Highway Safety Manual. Dr. Campbell also serves as a human factors expert in litigation matters involving motor vehicle crashes and traffic safety.
